Several political societies voiced their concerns regarding the implementation of the recommendations of Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) yesterday. The societies — Wa'ad, Al Taqadomi (The Democratic Progressive Tribune) and The Nationalist Democratic Assembly — were speaking during a meeting with a BICI team.

They hailed BICI for their honest and transparent approach. The societies said that the National Committee assigned to follow up on the recommendations is “not complete” as invitations were sent out to specific members of the political societies. They said that the societies should have been invited and they should have the right to choose their representative.

They pointed out that a decree was issued to convert the National Security Agency into an intelligence and information gathering body. The societies also pointed out that the courts are still rejecting defence requests for a referral to an objective committee despite torture claims by defendants.

They added that the investigations into death sentences were also not done correctly. The societies told BICI that no one has benefited from a compensation announced through a Royal Decree for people affected by the unrest. They said that really challenging conditions had to be met to receive the compensation.

The societies also discussed the issue of dismissed employees. They pointed out that these employees were given unfair contracts. The societies clarified that over 1,600 employees have not been reinstated yet and added that they have documents to prove their claim.
