SHURA Council members have pledged to work with all segments of the community to build a Bahrain based on reconciliation and brotherhood.

In a statement read out at its weekly session, secretary-general Abduljalil Al Tareef said they backed His Majesty King Hamad's call for unity to ensure its political, social and economic reforms as he received the National Commission (NC) report last week.

"The King's speech is a path that we should take - people from all walks of life - to develop democracy in this country and ensure that law and order prevail," he said.

"Protection of people's rights is something that tends to be a speciality of Bahrain and from it courageous decisions have been taken by the leadership to bring the Bahraini Independent Commission of Inquiry and later on form NC to follow up implementation.

"This has ensured that the guilty and the innocent were served justice regardless of their position in life and has paved the way for a new page that will certainly take Bahrain to newer and greater heights."

Mr Al Tareef said Bahrain was still in the early stages of a new era. "Reconciliation is a step forward but people have to work together to achieve and develop our beloved country," he said. "We here offer our hands to the leadership in unity and loyalty as we all work for the good of this nation."
