A RECEPTION was held for a top visiting British MP last night.

It was hosted by Conservatives Abroad Bahrain at the Sail Tower's Apartment in Seef, which was attended by community members and guests.

Attorney-general for England and Wales Dominic Grieve, QC MP, praised Bahrain's progress in implementing the recommendations of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) report.

He said it would add to "the longer-term process of reconciliation and political reform."

Mr Grieve met His Majesty King Hamad, Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa and senior government officials.

He attended a seminar for members of the Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry, which also included Public Prosecution members and judges.

The British Conservative MP from Beaconsfield also met minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa and National Commission head and Shura Council chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh.

Mr Al Saleh welcomed the support of many countries for the measures and initiatives of the kingdom to overcome the crisis.

He explained to the British MP steps taken to implement the recommendations of the BICI report and said that the National Commission will submit a detailed report to His Majesty, which would include all efforts made by the panel.

He also said that the National Commission's work focused on human rights, education, media, security, and national reconciliation.

Al Saleh clarified that the committee benefited during its work from many international experts, praising the UK's contributions in this regard.

"The visit has given me the opportunity to speak to Bahraini colleagues of my own profession, but more importantly, to hear of the good progress Bahrain has made in implementing the BICI recommendations," said Mr Grieve.

"The UK, as a close friend and ally, stands ready to work with and offer support to Bahrain in ensuring continuing and effective implementation of the recommendations."
