The National Commission is committed to implementing the recommendations of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) fully and according to international standards and practices, the head of the panel said yesterday. They will be implemented as outlined in the BICI final report and as stipulated by a Royal Order, Ali Saleh Al Saleh pledged.
He explained that the commission is studying the recommendations carefully to determine the best way to implement them.
He noted that the latest proposals approved by the commission regarding media were based on articles 'a' and 'b' of clause 1,724 of the report and stem from international norms and standards guaranteeing freedom of expression and opinion for all and protecting media establishments' professional ethics.
In a statement, Mr Al Saleh stressed that the panel's proposals are also in line with constitutional fundamentals and the best way to achieve the interests of the nation and the citizens.
He reiterated the panel's faith in the pivotal role played by mass media in ensuring a better and more ambitious future for the country by raising the citizens' awareness and updating them on what is going on in their nation.
Mr Al Saleh said that the commission, with its commitment to transparency, will keep the public informed about its decisions and proposals, as well as executive steps taken to implement the recommendations.
