The Government has submitted to the National Commission its report on implementation of the recommendations by the Bahrain International Commission of Inquiry (BICI). The Commission in turn announced that most recommendations have been fully implemented.

A few remaining recommendations require additional legislation – such as addressing professional standards for the media, developing education programmes promoting tolerance, compensating those who suffered damage or injury during the unrest, and preparing a national reconciliation programme. However, the government submitted the plans for implementation of these points yesterday.

Shura Council Chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh – who also heads the commission in charge of implementation of BICI recommendations – pointed out that actions taken to implement the recommendations are in compliance with best international practices.

The commission also requested an extension of its work period by 20 days until March 20. This would give it time to review all actions taken and prepare a report to be submitted to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
