Government Response

On December 24, 2011, the Attorney General affirmed that all charges of freedom of expression will be dropped.
Only the cases that include crimes of violence will be considered. About 343 people benefited from this decision. On January 2, 2012, the Higher Judiciary Council announced the formation of a commission of civil judges to revise all verdicts for the commutation of penalties of all accused of crimes related to freedom of expression which don't include incitement to violence.

  • Were conviction sentences actually nullified or commuted where the recommendation applies?
  • How many persons does the recommendation apply to but their conviction sentences were not nullified or commuted?
  • When will all cases referred to in the recommendation be reviewed?
